Casa Convento Sierra de María is located in the heart of the Sierra de María and Los Velez region. María is a charming village, with a great cultural enclave and spectacular gastronomy.
This former convent was built in the 19th century and its history is visible in the architecture of the building, which, even when renovated, retains its picturesque style and cosy atmosphere.
If you want to visit one of the most beautiful areas of Almeria, this is your place. We welcome you to our home and we hope you will feel it as your own.
Our job is to do things with love, every detail, every corner is prepared to make you feel in harmony and tranquillity.
The Casa Convento Sierra de María was a hospital in the 19th century, although over time and due to the country's economic crisis it had to close. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Town Council of María decided to invest in this emblematic building and decided to move classrooms to give classes to the children of the village.
In the middle of the 20th century the building was bought by the owner Don Juan Pedro Pérez Botia, who invested most of his fortune, the fruit of tireless years of work, in keeping his daughter close to home, who decided to take the habit.
Its architecture shows a building of ample dimensions, in the central nave of the building was located the chapel and the other rooms that are still preserved as they were in the past. The rooms were used for the teaching and accommodation of the Trinitarian and Mercedarian mothers. At the back of the building there is a more elegant and comfortable room, where Don Juan Pedro's daughter lived, undoubtedly our most charming room due to the views of the mountains.
This house with this great history makes us a place to stay and is perfect for a stay where you can rest, after walking the streets of the village or the many activities that are promoted in the region.
